In Kevin Smith’s Clerks III, Ben Affleck will make a cameo appearance, and the two of them will share a joke. Smith hinted at Affleck’s involvement in the project when talking to Variety. The discussion board on Smith’s website, ViewAskew.com, is the source of the inside joke. “I spent a lot of time on it, and [Affleck] was constantly curious about who all of these individuals were. Just stop talking to them. So I reasoned, “Well, duh, they’re my bosses, and it’s they who really buy the tickets,” “Smith said. “Ignore what he or she says. They’re the ones that shelled out cash to get inside the theatre.” Sometime later, Affleck would sign up for the forum under a pseudonym and engage in conversation with his devoted following.
Boston John was one of the most well-known posters on the board. When Boston John protested about the message board and told Smith he should shut it down, Affleck allegedly thought it humorous. Smith drew inspiration from the famous message board user for Affleck’s part in Clerks III. He glanced at the papers I provided him before the audition scene and said, “Boston John, the pimp!” as his character, according to Smith. He has to “slip into his [Boston] accent, employ his [Cambridge] as well.” Throughout his career, Smith has collaborated with Affleck on several cinematic projects.
In Mallrats (1995), Smith’s second feature picture, Affleck portrayed the role of Shannon Hamilton, and the two began working together. Film antagonist Shannon dates Brodie Bruce’s (Jason Lee) ex-girlfriend Rene Mosier (Shannen Doherty). The following film by Smith, Chasing Amy, would star Affleck (1997). Holden McNeil (Affleck) is a comic book artist who falls in love with Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams), another comic book artist who also happens to be a lesbian. Subsequent films in which Affleck appeared as Holden McNeil include 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
In the sequel, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Holden shows Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) fan complaints posted on the internet. Affleck has previously played Bartleby in 1999’s Dogma and Ollie Trinké in 2004’s Jersey Girl. He also appeared in Clerks II as a patron in 2006. Smith also discussed the experience of having Affleck reprise his role in Clerks III. “It was as if [Affleck] had said, “I’m there. You can count on it is fantastic. I felt like I was in a state of pure happiness. An hour later, he returned, “Smith,” the speaker said. On September 13, you may buy a copy of Clerks III.
