The last month has been particularly difficult for Warner Bros. and DC. They put off highly anticipated superhero sequels like Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, among others, and even scrapped pictures like Batgirl. The long-awaited DC picture starring Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam, is the one exception, and it will be released this year. Among the many reasons to look forward to this epic anti-hero origin narrative is the fact that it will be the first film to include The Justice Society of America (JSA).
Johnson has released a new poster centred on Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate, one of the most recognisable heroes in cinema history. The image Johnson posted on Twitter has Doctor Fate decked up in his classic comic book blue and yellow getup, complete with his trademark helmet. The slogan, “Fate does not make errors,” is a heavy addition to his new poster. In addition to being one of DC’s oldest characters, Doctor Fate also makes the JSA older than the popular Justice League by over two decades. Having a character like Doctor Fate in a movie is exciting for this reason.
He is sometimes likened to other fabled characters, such as Marvel’s Doctor Strange, however, this DC character predates Strange by two decades. The redesigned, though still outrageously designed, suit for Fate’s big screen premiere is another highlight. This new poster does a fantastic job of highlighting the suit’s wonderful concealed elements, which truly stand out against the blue and gold colour scheme.
Fate’s outfit, like that of other DC superheroes like Black Adam, Superman, and Batman, features detailed texturing that makes it stand out. This mystery hero’s dual nature is reflected in the unique split design of his helmet. Everything in this suit is top-notch, starting with the helm. However, Brosnan’s casting as Doctor Fate’s lead is the big draw. Not only did he play James Bond at the turn of the century, but he also appeared in other classic films including Mamma Mia! and The Thomas Crown Affair.
Brosnan possesses the ideal blend of imposing gravity and action chops for the part, both of which are essential in a franchise like DC’s. Although Doctor Fate has been in several TV series throughout the years, including Justice League Unlimited and Smallville, he really belongs in a movie with the rest of the Justice Society of America. On October 21, audiences will be able to view Brosnan as Doctor Fate in Black Adam.
