Four additional cast members have joined the upcoming Disney+ limited series, The Ballad of Renegade Nell. Billy Blind stars Louisa Harland of Derry Girls, Joely Richardson, and Adrian Lester, as well as Nick Mohammed, whose role as “Nate The Great” Shelley in Ted Lasso won him two Emmy awards. Fantasy adventure set in the 18th century, The Ballad of Renegade Nell tells the story of a common girl who rises to become the most notorious highwaywoman in the land. Nell, the show’s protagonist, is a young lady who is falsely convicted of murder but shows great bravery and intelligence as she sets off on a journey to clear her name.
Billy Blind, Mohammed’s blind protagonist, has been called “plucky yet prickly.” Richardson will play the eccentric newspaper mogul Lady Eularia Moggerhanger, while Lester will portray Nell’s sworn nemesis, the Earl of Poynton. The remaining cast members include Alice Kremelberg, Frank Dillane, Craig Parkinson, Pip Torrens, Enyi Okoronkwo, Bo Bragason, and Florence Keen. The Ballad of Renegade Nell’s script and executive production will be handled by Sally Wainwright, who previously contributed to the HBO series Gentleman Jack. Ben Taylor, who directed Sex Education, will also be in charge of directing many episodes of the anthology. Amanda Brotchie and MJ Delaney are two more directors committed to the show. Stella Merz is a producer on the show, while Jon Jennings is the show’s executive producer.
Johanna Devereaux, Louise Mutter, Will Johnston, and Faith Penhale are all executive producers on the programme. Mohammed has starred in several films, including The Martian and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, and is most remembered for his performance in the critically acclaimed Ted Lasso. Mohammed will be featured in the forthcoming film Maggie Moore(s) alongside Jon Hamm and Tina Fey, and he will also offer his vocal skills to the animated sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Richardson has starred in The Sandman and Suspect, and he is most recognised for his role in the FX series Nip/Tuck. In addition to Little Bone Lodge and Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Richardson has forthcoming roles in both films. Famous for his role in Independence Day (1996), Lester may now be seen on The Peacock’s The Undeclared War. The releaseĀ of The Ballad of Renegade Nell on Disney+ is scheduled for 2023.
