Former Star Trek actor Danny Huston has joined the cast of the planned remake of the 1994 action fantasy thriller, The Crow. Huston joins the already announced Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs. Filming on the new adaptation of The Crow, directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), reportedly began weeks ago in the Czech Republic. This current film and the 1994 original are both adaptations of the comic book of the same name by James O’Barr, which showed the ghost of a slain man revived by a crow and avenging the death of himself and his fiancée.
Huston’s part in the forthcoming version of The Crow has not yet been announced. The Crow was written by Zach Baylin, whose King Richard screenplay was just nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Edward R. Pressman, who produced the first Crow picture, is joined as a producer by Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, and John Jencks. While 1994’s The Crow was a major economic and critical triumph generating $94 million against a $23 million budget, the picture is arguably best-known for the tragedy surrounding its creation. Brandon Lee, the star of the film, was accidentally murdered on March 31, 1993, when fake cartridges were used in place of blank shots during a shooting sequence.
Bruce Lee was Brandon’s father. Lee only had three days of filming remaining when the accident occurred, so a body double was hired to complete the movie. O’Barr has remarked that, after Lee’s passing, he wishes he had never created the comic. The Crow ended up producing three sequels and a television spin-off. Huston is well-known for his roles in such films as The Constant Gardener, The Aviator, 21 Grams, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Wonder Woman. Huston has also made appearances in the TV programmes Magic City, Succussion, and Yellowstone.
Both “Marlowe” and “Across the River and Into the Trees,” in which the actor stars, are set to hit theatres soon. Huston is from a family of actors that also includes John Huston, Anjelica Huston, and Jack Huston, all of whom are renowned in their own right. The Crow has yet to be given a premiere date.
