Warner Bros. and its troubled The Flash actor Ezra Miller is trying to put out at least one fire as the studio faces greater criticism for its unexpected, enormous axing of material ranging from Batgirl to a number of HBO Max originals, while also reshuffling a number of its biggest blockbusters. Discover has battled with a slew of delays and bad re-castings, and this meeting was likely aimed to alleviate worries that they’d be facing another problem with one of their biggest upcoming pictures. Especially in light of Batgirl’s collapse, the last thing they want is another lost project, something that looked to be on the table with news of Miller’s newest legal difficulties. Miller has publicly apologised for their actions, but they took the opportunity to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery to express their regret for any further damage they may have caused to the company’s reputation.
After it was revealed that Miller had been kept on by Waner Bros. despite their having been prosecuted and arrested for their crimes, the studio had a hard time justifying Miller’s continued employment. It’s puzzling that CEO David Zaslav would want to reboot the DC picture world while keeping a divisive personality like Miller on board. Miller, upset by the possibility of losing the part and the film becoming cancelled, wanted to do all necessary to keep it alive, including consenting to obtain aid in order to salvage the project. According to a rumour attributed to an anonymous source, the actor “They have a keen interest in The Flash. Indeed, it’s one of their most-loved roles to take on.”
The fact that he talked to De Luca and Abdy after the shakeup is significant because of the additional responsibilities they have. The two are now in charge of the studio’s film branch, specifically its DC franchises. They were also deciding how The Flash’s future might pan out. Apparently, Zaslav, Abdy, and De Luca are still counting on the $200 million movie to light the way for a broader cinematic universe, and it seems they have enough trust in Miller to keep pushing forward. Unlike Batgirl, it’s apparently done quite well with test audiences, rivalling even the reaction of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movie before release.
Andy Muschietti helms The Flash, which is based on the Flashpoint event and features not one but two Batmans (Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck). With a lot of potential surrounding the picture and a presumably regretful Miller, the project is perhaps at the finest place it’s been in some time, even if it will always be plagued by the scandal of its star.
