You may have heard that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have declared full steam ahead for their Monsterverse, including the start of work on the sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. This time, the monster king and the gigantic ape have an opponent who can match their size and strength: a new kind of menace. WB and Legendary have announced the beginning of filming on the movie (which has not yet been given a title) and have also given us details about the actors. Several actors from previous films are returning, including Rebecca Hall (The Night House) as Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train) as Bernie Hayes, and Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong) as Jia. Some more Hollywood major hitters join Hall, Tyree Henry, and Hottle, including Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (The Batman), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople).
With such a stellar ensemble, it’s safe to assume that the upcoming Monsterverse film will be just as ambitious as its predecessors, requiring a hefty budget and a stellar cast to bring its vision to life. Adam Wingard, the guy behind Godzilla vs. Kong, will be at the helm of the upcoming Godzilla vs. King Kong film. Wingard is no stranger to enormous monster battles; he was the man behind the film, which made $470 million at a time when box office receipts were unclear because of the epidemic.
The studio’s faith in Wingard’s abilities is well-placed; he has a long track record in the horror genre, having helmed such films as You’re Next (2011) and The Guest (2014). Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater, and Simon Barrett are working on the script. Rossio wrote both the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and the story for Godzilla vs. Kong. Slater has been busy as of late, penning episodes of Marvel’s Moon Knight, while Barret has previously collaborated with Wingard on the film You’re Next. The March 15, 2024 release date has been confirmed for the sequel Godzilla vs. Kong.
Synopsis
