Miles Teller has landed yet another major Hollywood role, following his recent successes in Top Gun: Maverick and Spiderhead, both directed by Joseph Kosinski. The director of Whiplash and the film’s star will work together again for the forthcoming action romance film The Gorge, Deadline reported today. The Gorge will tell a narrative of high-octane adventure, perhaps with a side of tense romance, though details about the storyline are being kept under wraps for the time being. The Tomorrow War, an action science fiction film set for release in 2021, was adapted from a spec story written by Zach Dean.
Reuniting Teller with Skydance, who backed his last smash-hit Top Gun: Maverick, this project has the potential to break box office records. Similarly to Teller, Derrickson has had a very profitable summer at the box office. The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke, the director’s horror movie, grossed over $143.0 million worldwide. The film was favourably acclaimed by both reviewers and audiences. While Halloween Kills and Scream 5 both saw significant drops in weekly ticket sales over the past year, The Black Phone was able to break records.
Derrickson, with Teller by his side, is charging headfirst into his next project with this enthusiasm and momentum. This summer’s biggest hit, Top Gun: Maverick, which was directed by Teller, has now crossed the $1.4 billion worldwide box office milestone. Based on the events of the first Top Gun from 1986, this action-packed sequel follows Tom Cruise’s character, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, as he attempts to move on with his future while dealing with demons from his past. When he gets the call to come back and train a new group of TOPGUN recruits, he must face one of those apparitions: Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Teller), the son of Maverick’s late companion Goose. Together with Maverick’s director Joseph Kosinski, Teller adapted George Saunders’ short tale “Escape from Spiderhead” for the big screen.
The inmates of a secret, high-security jail were subjected to psychological and emotional evaluations by the film’s villain, a sinister psychiatrist named Dr Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth). BeBe Bettencourt, Tess Haubrich, and Jurnee Smollett also had roles in Spiderhead. Teller is not only acting in The Gorge but also producing it as an executive producer. For Skydance, the producers are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, while for Crooked Highway, it’s Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, and Sherryl Clark. Dean, Adam Kolbrenner, and Greg Goodman will round up the production crew. There is no confirmed date for the publication of The Gorge at this time.
