IDW has partnered with seasoned writing team Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser (Drawn Together) to develop a brand new television series. Writer James Asmus (Quantum and Woody, Gambit) and artist Edison Neo have inked a co-development pact with the comics giant to produce the sci-fi comedy series Family Time, according to Deadline (Snake Claws, No-Brainer). Next summer, the comic book adaptation of the series will debut. The series’ creators have an impressive track record, so even if facts are scarce at the moment, I’m optimistic. For almost 20 years, Silverstein and Jeser have been a productive and innovative team in the adult animation industry and beyond.
They’ve written and produced for adult animation shows including High School U.S.A!, The Cleveland Show, Axe Cop, and the most recent addition to the canon, Solar Opposites, but they’ve also collaborated on live-action shows like Andy Richter Controls the Universe and the John Stamos-led Grandfathered. They’ve also collaborated on other shows, such as the terrible but fantastic Drawn Together and the insatiable Golan the Insatiable. Silverstein and Jeser expressed their delight in working with the whole IDW staff, praising them as “exquisitely skilled,” “collaborative,” and “as delightful as we are.” Thanks for the chance to fail; we eagerly anticipate doing so.
IDW Entertainment EVP Paul Davidson also commented on the company’s supportive environment for creativity, saying, “Writers, producers, and other creatives have a plethora of opportunities to develop projects across multiple verticals simultaneously thanks to the close collaboration they enjoy with their peers at all levels of the Entertainment and Publishing divisions. It’s the perfect setting for bringing an artist’s dream to life.” Also releasing a statement in honour of the relationship was IDW publisher Nachie Marsham:
“IDW is in an ideal position to create properties that exist in the same world, and we can do it on a number of different media. Their comic skill is off the charts, therefore we couldn’t be happier to work with them on our first Entertainment and Publishing co-development project. We are confident that their extensive experience, along with IDW’s extensive knowledge, will result in fantastic material for both print and digital media.”
IDW, the comics publisher, has announced a relationship with Silverstein and Jeser as they extend their future television series lineup. Five new animated adaptations have been added to the company’s pipeline in the past month, and they are all from works by different authors: Dark Spaces: Wildfire, The Delicacy, Rivers, Brutal Nature, and Ballad for Sophie. The live-action shows Surfside Girls and Locke & Key have been successful for the publisher, and the latter can be found streaming on Netflix. IDW has released a slew of new original series, including Family Time, Trve Kvlt, Crashing, Earthdivers, Dead Seas, Golgotha Motor Mountain, Arca, The Sin Bin, and The Hunger and the Dusk.
The release date of Family Time has not yet been announced.
