The first photo of Evan Peters in the role of Dahmer from Netflix’s upcoming series has been revealed. The streaming service has also unveiled a small, 9-second trailer for the TV movie. Dahmer is the brainchild of American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy and The Politician and Hollywood brain trust member Ian Brennan. Also known as Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the show will focus on the victims of serial murderer Jeffrey Dahmer rather than on the perpetrator himself. Dahmer murdered seventeen young men and boys between 1978 and 1991.
The limited series will also dive deeply into the unfair method by which Wisconsin police investigated the murders committed by Jeffrey Dahmer. The actor is seen in character as Dahmer for the first time, although from the rear. This is the first official photo from the limited series. Although the teaser doesn’t feature much real footage from the new limited series, its short, creepy nature gives viewers a good idea of the disturbing atmosphere to expect. A gradual zoom into the main character’s eye introduces the teaser.
In the next frames, the iris becomes almost entirely opaque, as if it were made of black velvet, and proceeds to engulf the observer. Dahmer also features Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford, and Richard Jenkins in addition to Peters. The series is directed by Paris Barclay, Carl Franklin, and Janet Mock. On the new show, Murphy and Brennan have dual roles as executive producers. The first four episodes of the limited series were written by Murphy and Brennan, and the fifth episode was written by Brennan himself. Writer credits for the programme also go to David McMillan, Reilly Smith, and Todd Kubrak, in addition to Mock. The focus of this limited series is a serial murderer who has already been the subject of two feature films.
Dahmer, a film released in 2002, starred Jeremy Renner as Jeffrey Dahmer. The real-life classmate of Dahmer, Derf Backderf, created a comic book of the same name, and in 2017, former Disney actor Ross Lynch played a teenage version of Dahmer in the film My Friend Dahmer. Peters is one of Murphy’s most reliable coworkers, having been a part of the American Horror Story cast for nine out of the show’s 10 seasons. Peters also had an appearance in eight Pose episodes. Murphy is now working on numerous new series on Netflix. As for FX, Murphy has not one but two new projects in the works: American Love Story and American Sports Story. Dahmer will likely be available on Netflix later this year.
