According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the Spiderwick Chronicles will return to live action with the casting of We Can Be Heroes’ Lyon Daniels and Punky Brewster’s Noah Cottrell in Disney’s series adaptation of the popular book series. The twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace from the original narrative will be played by the two actors.
Christian Slater, who co-starred with Daniels in We Can Be Heroes, has been revealed to portray the film’s major adversary, the ogre Mulgarath, and now the film’s two stars have been announced.
Despite the lack of information about the impending show, the recent announcement of numerous cast members suggests that preparations for filming have begun. Kat Coiro, who most recently directed episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, will handle the first two episodes of the online programme. In his new role as showrunner, Aron Eli Coleite will draw on his experience creating Netflix’s Locke and Key. It is unclear how closely the series will adhere to the books, but breaking up the plot into episodes does allow for a greater chance of utilising aspects from all of the books.
It’s probable that we’ll learn more about the show’s cast and crew in the near future. Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi’s original book series follows a little boy and his siblings as they unravel the secrets of a strange field guide and learn about the existence of a magical realm inhabited by fairies and goblins. A movie with the same name was released in 2008, marking the first time this novel series had been adapted for the big screen. Both reviewers and moviegoers seemed to like the picture, which featured Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) in the dual role of the brothers. Fans of the original novels will soon get a chance to see the narrative that introduced them to this wonderful universe in an entirely new medium.
Black and DiTerlizzi, creators of the series, will serve as executive producers on the film alongside Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and Julie Kane-Ritsch. Both Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television will be responsible for making the show.
The Spiderwick Chronicles has yet to begin production, thus there is no confirmed premiere date.
