The production firm A24 has announced that they will be working with Max and Sam Eggers, or The Eggers Brothers, on their first feature film. The pair will helm an adaptation of Susan Hill’s short tale of the same name, which will serve as the film’s script. The plot centres on a young, expecting couple who must take in the woman’s sick stepmother after she has been cut off from her family for quite some time. Grammy-winning vocalist Brandy Norwood, along with Kathryn Hunter, Andrew Burnap, and Neal Huff, will star in the film.
Max Eggers and his stepbrother Robert Eggers are famous for authoring the screenplay for the film The Lighthouse.
The film, which featured the acting talents of Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as lighthouse keepers stranded on an outpost, was praised for its ability to transcend categories. It was nominated for Best Cinematography at both the 92nd Academy Awards and the 73rd British Academy Film Awards, among many other honours. Olympia, the 2018 documentary directed by Harry Mavromichalis and focusing on the life of Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis, was co-written by Sam Eggers. A combination of the two directors and the film’s all-star ensemble ensures that this product will be one to watch.
Brandy Norwood, who goes by her first name alone, became famous for her role as Naomi on the hit musical drama series Queens, which aired on ABC. Her resume includes roles in Zoe Ever After, The Game, Drop Dead Diva, Beverly Hills, 90210, and more.
She has acted in several films, including The Perfect Match, Osmosis Jones, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and ABC’s production of Cinderella based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Her co-star will be Oliver Award winner Hunter, who was also in Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth with Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, and others. She’s next scheduled to appear in Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos’ science fiction romance co-starring Mark Ruffalo, Emma Stone, and Margaret Qualley. Huff has acted in a number of movies, including Waves, Radium Girls, and Beach Rats.
His acting resume also includes guest roles on shows including The Wire, Show Me a Hero, and the Netflix originals The Sinner and Mare of Easttown. Burnap, a recipient of the Tony Award, has worked on the TV shows WeCrashed and Under the Banner of Heaven. In addition to starring opposite Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot in Disney’s live-action Snow White, he will also appear in the film. The Front Room will be produced by A24 alongside Two & Two Pictures’ Lucan Toh, Babak Anvari, and Bryan Sonderman, and 2 AM’s Julia Oh and David Hinojosa. The movie has not been given a premiere date as of yet.
