There will be some modifications to the forthcoming release schedule for Warner Bros. Today, it was reported that the new release date for Shazam! (with Zachary Levi in the title role) is going to be March 17, 2023. The film’s intended release date of December 21, 2022, during the Christmas season, has been pushed back four months due to this delay. It’s a sequel to Shazam! from 2019, and it’s set to be out on Christmas Day, 2023, after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, directed by James Wan, was pushed back from March 17.
There are some silver linings to the unexpected three-month postponement of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, including the fact that the superhero film will no longer have to compete with the December 16 opening of Avatar: The Way of Water. Given that DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods is not releasing so close to James Cameron’s Avatar sequel, the latter will not have to compete with the former for Imax screenings. Deadline also mentions the $134 million opening weekend and $369.3 million domestic gross for Matt Reeves’ The Batman this year. Warner Bros. Discovery has also revealed that two films that were scheduled for an HBO Max debut would instead have theatrical releases on the new dates.
Both Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise and Calmatic’s House Party revival for New Line, which James and Carter helped create, are on this list. They will now debut in cinemas on December 9, 2022, and April 21, 2023. After recent high-profile cancellations like Batgirl and ScoobHoliday !’s Haunt, and the general removal of animated programmes from HBO Max as a result of the streaming service’s merger with Discovery+, these revelations come as something of a surprise. Shazam! Many of the original cast members, including Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as Shazam, are expected to reprise their roles in Fury of the Gods.
There’s Adam Brody, Meagan Good, Ross Butler, and D. J. Cotrona as their superpowered selves, and there’s also Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, and Jovan Armand in the regular cast. Grace In place of Michelle Borth, the original film’s Caroline Currey will reprise her role as both the regular and super versions of the character. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler join the returning cast in new roles. Shazam! On March 17, 2023, the movie Fury of the Gods will be released to the public.
