Both Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine have had successful recent years, with guest starring roles on popular television series and in blockbuster film franchises. It’s official: both actors will be appearing on-screen together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two will play main roles in an upcoming A24 film titled I Saw the TV Glow.
The plot of Smith and Lundy-horror Paine’s film revolves around their characters, two teenagers who bond over “their shared enjoyment of a terrifying television show.” However, the show is abruptly cancelled, setting in motion a chain of events that blurs the line between reality and television drama.
The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that music plays a significant role in the film, with artists including Fred Durst, King Woman, Lindsey Jordan of Snail Mail, and Haley Dahl’s Sloppy Jane (with Phoebe Bridgers) all contributing to the soundtrack. Just recently, Smith made his second appearance as Franklin in the relaunched Jurassic Park franchise in the film Dominion. Also, he broke ground in the young adult genre with his roles in the movie version of All the Bright Places and the one-season series Genera+ion, both of which attracted small but devoted fan bases. Smith has been in a number of successful films, including Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
In the next action-adventure Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, he will play a major role. Although they may be most known for their role as Casey in the Netflix series Atypical, Lundy-Paine has maintained a similar trajectory. Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third film in the famous series that began in the late 1980s, featured them between seasons. They portrayed Billie, Ted’s daughter.
Lundy-Paine has recently been seen in a starring role in the dramatised podcast series City of Ghosts. Recognized TV Glow also features Danielle Deadwyler, Amber Benson, Ian Foreman, Michael Maronna, Emma Portner, Danny Tamberelli, and Conner O’Malley in addition to Helena Howard, who broke out in The Wilds. Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) penned the script and supervised the production. Stone collaborates with Dave McCary and Ali Herting as co-producers under the Fruit Tree moniker. Together with Sam Intili, Sarah Winchell of Smudge Films serves as a producer.
In terms of funding and global distribution, A24 is taking care of everything. A24 has a busy schedule, with its most recent release being the Gen Z horror picture Bodies Bodies Bodies. The studio’s next slate of films includes Brendan Fraser’s The Whale, the Marine thriller The Inspection, and Ti West’s highly anticipated X prequel Pearl. The release date for I Saw the TV Glow has not been set, but production is wrapping up.
