Oren Uziel, co-writer of The Lost City, has reportedly been hired to pen 20th Century Studios’ Clue, which will star Ryan Reynolds. Uziel will be revising the original script for the forthcoming feature film, which was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and is based on the popular whodunit Hasbro game. James Bobin, who directed Alice Through the Looking Glass in 2016, has replaced Jason Bateman as director and co-star. Following the success of The Lost City, which starred Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, Uziel is at the top of his game. He also shared screenwriting credit for a post-pandemic film that made $190.8 million worldwide and $105.3 million in the United States.
His previous works include the science fiction thriller 22 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as undercover detectives assigned to a university to investigate the usage of recreational drugs, and Julius Onah’s critically acclaimed The Cloverfield Paradox. The author’s first foray at directing a film was his own concept, Shimmer Lake. The 1985 black comedic mystery film Clue, directed by Jonathan Lynn, is the inspiration for the new film adaptation. It is faithful to the board game in every respect and features six strangers who, upon invitation, visit a remote New England estate.
Each of the six blackmail victims is given a pseudonym upon arrival and presented to the blackmailer. The blackmailer gets murdered throughout the night. The visitors must now look among themselves to identify the killer. The film’s star power, which included Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, and Colleen Camp, wasn’t enough to win over audiences. Though it lost its initial popularity, cult classic status has given it a second chance at success. Reynolds has been in a number of films, but his most recent role was in The Adam Project on Netflix, starring opposite Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and young actor Walker Scobell.
The highly anticipated Deadpool 3 and the films Dragon’s Lair: The Movie and Imaginary Friends will both include his directing skills in the near future. Bobin has directed many feature films, including Muppets Most Wanted, The Muppets, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and an episode of the soon-to-air Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
There have been no more announcements regarding the project.
