This year has seen the comeback of horror legends like Ghostface and Esther, in addition to a number of outstanding original releases. However, this October also sees the culmination of a war between two genre icons in Halloween Ends. On October 14, audiences in cinemas and at home may watch Laurie Strode and Michael Myers go to battle once more. Universal Pictures has unveiled a new poster for the finale that shows the two antagonists side by side, after the news of the hybrid release. Michael Myers, wearing the signature dark blue jumpsuit and expressionless white mask that has become increasingly worn over the course of his more than the 40-year reign of terror, is shown in the new photograph. In the background, Jamie Lee Curtis’s character Laurie Strode has matured much since Halloween Night in 1978.
Since that terrible night, she has lived in constant terror and prepared for her rematch with Myers. All the planning in the world can’t prevent the return of pure evil, as the first two films in this new trilogy have proven. Curtis has created something truly legendary in Laurie, who is one of the first “final girls” in the series. For that reason, I’m curious to see how the plot develops for Laurie. Will she prove herself to be a true survivalist till the end, or will Myers be her undoing? That’s the terrifying inquiry many horror buffs have been dying to have answered. There is no new information about the film’s narrative presented in this poster, but there are some beautiful touches, such as the background colours, which are a combination of the sombre tones used in the marketing for the original Halloween and the blazing reds of Halloween Kills.
The poster’s orange smoke at the bottom will immediately bring to mind the gory aftermath of Kills, where beloved characters like Tommy Doyle and Laurie’s daughter Karen were brutally slain by Myers. On that terrifying Halloween evening, nobody could have felt secure. The teaser trailer published earlier this summer and other promotional materials suggest that the next conclusion, titled Ends, would bring the extreme gory lunacy of the sequel trilogy to a horrifying close. Four years have passed after the events of Halloween Kills, and the sequel Halloween Ends will take up just where the first film left off. With the tragedies of Halloween 1978 and 2018 still fresh in their minds, Laurie and her granddaughter Allyson are attempting to put the past in the past.
Myers is still at large, though, and when a babysitter is suspected of murder, everything in Haddonfield falls into a tailspin once more. It just takes one terrifying event for people to start looking for the real monster underneath it all. Over the course of the previous four decades, Halloween has become a staple of the horror film industry. The continuous conflict between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode has become legendary, and the new poster for the film captures that terrifying weight well. This new trilogy is a fierce ode to Halloween, thanks in large part to the contributions of original series mastermind John Carpenter and filmmaker David Gordon Green. There has been just the right amount of graphic violence, expertly crafted tension, and nerve-wracking shock. On October 14, however, Halloween Ends will premiere in theatres and on Peacock, bringing an emotional conclusion to this frightening narrative.
