In Hulu’s new original comedy, Reboot isn’t just a fictional fan-favourite sitcom that is receiving a second chance. When the original cast members get back together after a decade or more, as shown in the new teaser for the next series, expect some tension to arise. First, we see a pitch meeting where the notion of rebooting a made-up comedy called Step Right Up is discussed. Parts of the actors reunite for mockumentary-style filming to bring the dated sitcom to a modern audience.
The personal dynamics shared by the reunited cast members appear to be the make-or-break element of the series, as they confront their prior connections and trudge forward to bridge the gap in time since they last met. Reboot’s cast includes Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, Johnny Knoxville, Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, and Krista Marie Yu, among many more. Former couple Reed Sterling (Key) and Bree Marie Larson (Greer) will have to face the consequences of their broken engagement, while Knoxville’s reformed criminal Clay Barber (Barber) will repeat his old patterns of behaviour.
Furthermore, there’s Reiser’s Gordon, the original series’ out-of-touch creator who hasn’t caught up to what’s acceptable in the modern world. Zack Worthy, the show’s youngest cast member, has always been accompanied on set by his stage-mom mother. Bloom’s Hannah and Yu’s Elaine are the glue holding the show together, and they’re risking in the hopes of making the remake Hulu’s greatest hit ever. Steven Levitan, best known as co-creator of the Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family, is also responsible for the single-camera series.
The Emmy-winning mind behind Just Shoot Me! and Stacked was also responsible for both shows’ enormous success. In addition to co-showrunners Danielle Stokdyk and Jeff Morton, Levitan is an executive producer on the show. Producers include Steven Levitan Productions and Twentieth Television. Watch the premiere of Hulu’s newest series on September 20 to see if the reunited ensemble can keep it together in the first of what will be weekly episodes.
