With the launch of Season 2 of the critically acclaimed crime thriller The Cleaning Lady quickly approaching, Fox has begun releasing fresh casting details. The news that Chelsea Frei has been cast as a regular on the programme was reported by Deadline. The second episode of Season 2 will see the debut of Maya Campbell, played by Frei. In the second season, Campbell will enter the picture as somebody from FBI Special Agent Garrett Miller’s past. Campbell used to be an ordinary, industrious woman who worked as a bartender in Las Vegas to pay off her college loans.
As a result of Agent Miller’s decision to utilise her as an informant in the case he is working on, she would soon find herself entangled in the bureau’s narcotics investigation. However, the affair ultimately led to the breakdown of the partnership and the conclusion of the drug case in question. Thony (Élodie Yung), the show’s protagonist, is a Cambodian doctor who, due to unfortunate circumstances, works as a “cleaning woman” for the mob and is thus always under the radar of law enforcement.
What effect Campbell’s return will have on her remains to be seen. It appears like Frei’s Campbell may be one of the new characters from Arman and Nadia’s pasts who will be presented to Thony “in a fresh, new way” during Season 2. This was stated by showrunner Melissa Carter in a June interview about the impending second season. Also, as Carter stated, “Thony will create new adversaries and new alliances, and face up against new antagonists.” Which side of the debate Campbell will find himself in remains to be seen.
Based on what Carter has said, it seems like there will be more people like Frei introduced in the future. Frei recently started acting in 2018, thus she hasn’t had many TV jobs so yet. In the online comedy series Sideswiped, she made her first appearance as a series regular using the name Jayne Tyler. After that, she portrayed the infamous mobster’s daughter in the film Victoria Gotti: My Father’s Daughter. The Last O.G., directed by Jordan Peele, and the critically panned science fiction romantic drama The Time Traveler’s Wife are among her other credits. Her role as Bridget Moody in the sitcom The Moodys was her longest-running television role. In the new Freeform series While You Were Breeding, Frei will portray Kacey, a woman in her 30s who has recently become single and decides to broaden her horizons outside the hectic lifestyle she has known all her life in Los Angeles.
The cast of The Cleaning Lady also features Adan Canto, Martha Millan, Jay Mohr, Liza Weil, Shiva Negar, and Frei will be joining them. Miranda Kwok is responsible for creating, writing, and serving as an executive producer for the programme. Shay Mitchell, David Dean Portelli, Rose Marie Vega, and Paola Suarez are among the other executive producers. Fox Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television are working together on this production.
The Cleaning Lady returns for its second season on Fox on September 19 at 9 p.m.
