Roy Scheider, who many may remember from his role in Jaws, was nominated for an Oscar twice. One of Scheider’s last films was left unfinished because the technology needed to finish it the way he had envisioned it didn’t exist until after his death in 2008. Thanks to AI, the re-release of Jaws will finally reach viewers with the title Beautiful Blue Eyes, which was inspired by a moving sequence in the original film at Scheider’s request. The method utilised to repair the film is a remarkable technological breakthrough that permitted the restoration of material that had been destroyed during filming. Due to technical difficulties with one of the cameras, several sequences could not be included; nevertheless, with the help of today’s AI innovations, we are finally able to wrap up production.
Movie synopsis: “An NYPD officer (Scheider) has been plagued by the murder of his family during World War II for decades. He recruits his estranged son to help him take revenge on the Nazi he believes is responsible.”
This is the official movie trailer:
“The announcement that Steven Spielberg’s epic JAWS, starring two-time Academy Award nominee Roy Scheider (The French Connection, All That Jazz), will be re-released in RealD 3D and IMAX theatres sparked unprecedented excitement among moviegoers. Beautiful Blue Eyes, which features Scheider in his final film role, will have its global premiere at the Regal Union Square in New York City on September 8, and will then open exclusively in 431 Regal theatres across the United States beginning on September 9.”
The film was Scheider’s final project, and he requested the name change to Beautiful Blue Eyes three days before he died away; director Joshua Newton made the change in his memory. To round out the ensemble, Scheider’s younger self (played by Alexander Newton) is joined by Scott Cohen, Sarah Bolger, Helmet Berger, and Scheider himself (played by Scheider himself). One of Scheider’s most recognisable performances is included in this double feature with Beautiful Blue Eyes, giving fans the best of both worlds.
To honour Scheider’s career, the picture will debut alongside Jaws at 431 Regal locations across the United States this September. A brilliantly crafted movie that will have viewers discussing long afterwards,” Pete Hammond stated in his review. Scheider’s farewell picture will have its world premiere in New York City on September 8 and begin rolling out to theatres nationwide on September 9.
