New Action-Packed Poster for “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, Cast, Release Date & Synopsis & More

Sony’s Spider-Man canon is expanding rapidly, with new films starring Dakota Johnson as Madame Web and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven the Hunter coming out in the next year. But the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is probably the most anticipated film from the company. Christopher Miller, the film’s producer, recently tweeted, “Here is a fun little poster designed for the Across the Spider-Verse crew.” On the poster, Miles Morales faces up against Spider-Man 2099. On a yellow and orange background, Miles can be seen in his black and red outfit, while Spider-Man 2099 can be seen in his blue and red suit; the art style is quite uncommon, like the rest of the franchise, and resembles comic book aesthetics.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, the film’s predecessor, was a visual treat with a feeling of walking into the comic book pages and won the Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, becoming the first non-Disney/Pixar picture to win the prize since 2011’s Rango. Everyone in the Spider-Verse seemed to be following in its footsteps. It’s the second film in the franchise and the first in a two-part plot, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse due out in 2024. After the events of the previous film, Miles (Shameik Moore) teams up with Spider Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and a new gang of Spider-people to take on Spider-Man 2099 in Across the Spider-Verse (Oscar Issac).

Characters from the new ones are being kept under wraps, however, Jake Johnson will be returning as the humorous Peter B. Parker. The last movie introduced relatively niche characters to the big screen, such as Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). A preview released before the film’s release showed us a taste of the sequel’s vibrant universe and confirmed that Spider-Man 2099, alias Miguel O’Hara, will play a significant role in the story.

According to the producer, “the tale is intimate and focused on Miles and his family, along with Gwen and a handful of others,” despite Miller’s later confirmed that the plot will take place across six worlds and involve roughly 240 unique minor and main characters. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson helm the second instalment of this trilogy set in many universes. The film’s screenplay is a collaboration between Miller, Phil Lord, and David Callaham. Spider-Man The official release date for Across the Spider-Verse is slated for June 2, 2023.
