A limited series adaption of J.J. Abrams’s My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, produced by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, was cancelled by Apple TV+. Series actress Jennifer Garner left the project owing to a schedule difficulty, which led to the show’s cancellation.
As Deadline reports, “WBTV and Bad Robot are understood to both be high on My Glory Was I Had Such Friend and aim to seek another home for it.” It was also revealed that the show’s writer’s room is still hard at work on numerous screenplays for the series in order to market it to potential investors.
After Bad Robot bought the rights to Amy Silverstein’s memoir of the same name shortly after its first publication in 2017, it acquired a straight-to-series order from Apple TV+ in 2018. In the first edition of her book, My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, Silverstein writes of the people who helped her through the long wait for a second heart transplant that would save her life. The novel illustrated the power of female friendship and love by highlighting the resilience of the characters. Karen Croner was slated to serve as showrunner and writer for the TV adaptation.
Meanwhile, Garner is hard at work on the set of the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series The Last Thing He Told Me, an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Laura Dave and produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. Live-action adaptations of both Speed Racer and a series based on Scott Turow’s book Presumed Innocent are in the works at Bad Robot for Apple TV+, with casting now underway for both. Darker adaptations of DC Comics’ Constantine and Madame X starring Angela Robinson are also in the works at the production business. As of right present, neither the series’ future home nor whether or not it will be revived are known.
