Amazon Studios has announced that the first season’s soundtrack is now accessible on all music streaming platforms, giving fans the opportunity to get into the mood for the upcoming epic series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The prequel series, whose launch is in only two weeks, will focus on the Second Age of Middle-Earth, thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Some of the show’s most popular characters, such as Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond, will have their origin stories told, as well as the rise and fall of Sauron (Robert Aramayo). Bear McCreary, who has won an Emmy for his previous work on the scores of Outlander and Black Sails and the upcoming Foundation for Apple TV+, wrote the music for the series.
McCreary has also worked as a composer for a number of high-profile television shows and films, including The Walking Dead, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Much like the rest of the series, the soundtrack includes references to other films in the series. The series’ main title was composed by Oscar winner Howard Shore, who has won three Oscars. Two of Shore’s three Oscars are for his score to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the third and last live-action adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels.
McCreary, in an official statement, discussed the honour of scoring such a significant piece of popular culture and his goals for the score: My imagination has been profoundly influenced for practically my whole life by J.R.R. Tolkien’s spectacular writings and their cinematic adaptations. It is a great privilege of mine to provide the musical accompaniment for the story of the Second Age of Middle-earth. Amazon Studios also said that “Find the Light” and “The Promised King,” two songs from the soundtrack, will be available exclusively on Amazon Music to members. Two cast members from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power appear on the series’ soundtrack, with Megan Richards singing “This Wandering Day” and Sophia Nomvete (Princess Disa) performing “A Plea to the Rocks” (Harfoot Poppy Proudfellow).
It’s expected that Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers would establish a new standard for moviemaking with its groundbreaking special effects and groundbreaking storyline. Season 1 will have a budget of about half a billion dollars, making it the most costly season ever produced for television. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have hinted at a five-season arc, suggesting that events from Season 1 won’t have any lasting repercussions for a very long time. Season 2 has already begun production, and director J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) will lead the first two episodes. On September 2, Prime Video will air the first two episodes of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power throughout the world.
