After the dramatic loss of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) pivotal Van Scene, the Stranger Things writers’ room has released a second screenplay scene on Twitter. They shared the screenplay for a discussion between Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington and Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson in the Upside Down immediately after Steve is assaulted by Demobats. Stranger Things writers have labelled this scene “Steve and Eddie in the woods,” but for many viewers who were cheering for Steddie, this heartfelt moment may have been a defining moment of the series.
Since there was an issue with fans being scammed online for a “leaked script” of Stranger Things, a Netflix series nominated for an Emmy, the writers’ room has taken to Twitter, where they promise monthly scene dumps. Instead of picking pages at random, authors put up a Twitter poll with a few alternatives, and fans vote on the ones they want to see. Will’s van speech from episode 8 of season 4 titled “Papa” was published as their debut scene.
The script highlighted Schnapp’s impressive performance and the touching bond between Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and his younger brother, however, several viewers were disappointed by the paucity of Mike Wheeler’s (Finn Wolfhard) innermost thoughts and feelings. In the second episode, Eddie and Steve have their first one-on-one meeting, feeding the Steddie beast the creators have created. The episode in question is “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab” from Season 4, Episode 7 and takes place shortly after Steve is nearly devoured by Demobats in the Upside Down. Steve, Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) are presently trying to find their way out of the terrifying Hawkins parallel universe with Eddie in tow after he was wanted by the authorities for alleged murder.
Steve stops walking as the four teenagers make their way across the nightmare terrain to thank Eddie in a “really uncomfortable “man” way” for helping him. Eddie and Steve have their first private talk in this scenario. Eddie, the outcast high school senior, had previously treated Steve’s tough facade and all-American reputation with casual disdain, while Steve had never given Eddie a second thought. However, the necessity of working together to exonerate Eddie and avoid Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) curse provides a rare opportunity for mutual understanding between the two. Eddie mocks Steve as he expresses gratitude, stating, “You ended up saving your own arse.
That was some very Ozzy-esque backflipping you did there “During the time Steve was fending off the Demonbats, they used this phrase to describe the situation. Eddie clarifies the Ozzy Osbourne connection to Rick Springfield–leaning Steve by bringing up Dustin Henderson’s (Gaten Matarazzo) love for Steve. Even though Steve’s feelings for Dustin are obvious, the script stresses how much it means to him that Dustin respects him. The article goes on to describe the Dungeon Master of the Hellfire Club’s deep feelings for Dustin.
In addition to providing a new angle on Steve and Nancy’s exchanges, this scene serves a crucial narrative function. The writers utilised Eddie’s lines to convey how Nancy immediately followed Steve into the Upside Down, and in a pivotal passage in the screenplay, viewers are given the option to interpret the character as “a panicked Steve.”
“I don’t know what went wrong, but if I were you, I’d try to win her back. No matter what it takes.
For it was as clear a demonstration of affection as these jaded onlookers had ever witnessed.” Steve and Eddie’s co-parenting of Dustin on the run from the cops is fraught with tension, Steve’s himbo energy, and Eddie’s devil-may-care attitude, but the screenplay makes it apparent how much Steve values Nancy’s concern. All’s fair in love and battle, after all, so the programme will keep inspiring ship theories. In case you haven’t heard, Netflix now has all four seasons of Stranger Things accessible to watch instantly.
