Suncoast, which will mark Laura Chinn’s directing and writing debut, will star Woody Harrelson, Laura Linney, and Nico Parker, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The September production start date comes as Searchlight Pictures joined the cast of the Black List drama for 2020. The film is based on Chinn’s real-life experiences from the 2000s and tells the story of a girl and her independent mother who, due to unforeseen circumstances, must send the teen’s brother to live in a specialist facility.
In the middle of the demonstrations over contentious medical issues, she unexpectedly befriends an outspoken activist. Parker will portray the young adolescent. As her mother, Linney has been cast, and as the activist, Harrelson has been cast. The Pop TV comedy Florida Girls, written by actress-turned-screenwriter Chinn, is based on her own life and follows four ladies as they make their way through life in a trailer park in Florida. As with many other Pop originals in 2020, Season 2 was cancelled despite positive reviews.
Considering how well-received Chinn’s Florida Girls was, as well as the stellar cast he’s assembled for Suncoast, it’s safe to assume that this will be an intense and compelling drama. Recently, Harrelson appeared in Triangle of Sadness, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and took home the Palme d’Or for best film. In addition to co-starring with Tom Hardy and Kevin Hart in the action film The Man From Toronto, he has also appeared as a Marvel villain in Sony’s Venom: Let there be Carnage.
Recently, Linney has been nominated for four Emmys for her role in the Netflix crime thriller Ozark, in which she co-starred in with Jason Bateman. The Savages and Kinsey, both from Searchlight, and You Can Count on Me, directed by Kenneth Lonergan, have earned her three nominations for the Academy Award. Parker, alongside Micheal Keaton and Colin Farrell, made her film debut in Dumbo.
Her most recent appearance was in the HBO Max film Reminiscence, and she will soon be joined by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal in the upcoming The Last of Us series on the streaming service. The film’s producers are Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy, and Oly Obst. Taylor Friedman, senior VP of production at Searchlight, and Daniel Yu, manager of creative affairs, will be in charge of the project. Suncoast has not yet been given a release date.
