One may think they could just jump into Yellowjackets Season 2 at any time. Today, Showtime revealed that Elijah Wood, known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, will guest feature on Yellowjackets for the entirety of Season 2. Previously, it was reported that Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant) would be joining the series as the mature versions of Lottie and Van from Season 1. Wood is the most recent addition to the roster for the second season.
It has been revealed that Wood would guest star on the show as Walter, a “committed Citizen Detective who will test Misty in ways she won’t see coming.” Wood has had a lengthy and impressive career, appearing in films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Everything is Illuminated, Sin City, The Faculty, The Ice Storm, Set Fire to the Stars, and Open Windows, as well as lending his voice to animated films like Happy Feet and the Tim Burton-produced animated film 9, and animated TV shows like Over the Garden Wall and Star Wars Resistance. His portrayal as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings adaptation films—The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King—is among his most enduring legacies as an actor.
No Man of God, directed by Amber Sealey, is the most recent movie that has been viewed. The film, which had its world premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, was produced by Wood as well. To name just two of his future film roles, he will also be featured in L.A. Rush and The Toxic Avenger, a superhero comedic horror flick. The protagonists of Yellowjackets are a high school soccer team who, after surviving an aircraft disaster, is stranded in the Canadian wilderness. The story is told in two parts: the first follows the survivors as they struggle for 19 months in the wilderness, and the second follows them as they go about their daily lives 25 years later.
Yellowjackets’ first season was a critical and economic success, earning seven Emmy nominations and garnering more than five million viewers each episode across all platforms. It was Showtime’s second-most streamed series ever. Wood joins the likes of Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci, both of whom have been nominated for Emmys for their performances in the series, with Lynskey up for Outstanding Lead Actress and Ricci for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Juliette Lewis (The Hateful Eight), Christina Ricci (Z: The Beginning of Everything), Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable), Ella Purnell (Sweetbitter), Samantha Hanratty (Shameless), Sophie Thatcher (Prospect), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), Steven Krueger (The Originals), and Warren Kole round out the cast (Shades of Blue).
Yellowjackets were created by Jonathan Lisco, Ashley Lyle, and Bart Nickerson, who previously worked together on the critically acclaimed Netflix series Narcos and its spinoff, Narcos: Mexico (Animal Kingdom). Along with the pilot’s director, Karyn Kusama, and Creative Engine’s Drew Comins, all three of them serve as executive producers on the project. A second season of the Showtime original series is about to begin filming in Vancouver. The series is produced by the company Entertainment One (eOne). The creators of Yellowjackets, Lyle and Nickerson, are shooting for an early 2023 premiere for the second season.
