The sequel to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, dubbed Sam and Victor’s Day Off, has been given the go-ahead by Paramount Pictures. The original Cobra Kai on Netflix was created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, who are also responsible for this spin-off. The screenplay will be written by Bill Posley of Bitch Ass and 9-1-1 fame. In the first, Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins played two unknown valets who stole Cameron’s father’s Ferrari and are the focus of this sequel. John Hughes wrote, co-produced, and directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. High school senior Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara), and his best buddy Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) appear in the adolescent comedy.
Ferris fakes illness so he may spend time with his girlfriend and closest friend, and the movie chronicles their comedic exploits together. When Ferris takes Cameron’s father’s cherished 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder for a spin around Chicago, things take an unexpected turn. While they’re out seeing the sights, the three friends leave their car with the valet, who drives it around town for them. The film’s tone and comedy earned praise, and the fact that it showcased iconic Chicago landmarks like the Art Institute, Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, and others have helped it become a cult classic over the years. And for having a great soundtrack, with such highlights as Wayne Newton singing Danke Schoen and Ferris lip-syncing a copy of “Twist and Shout” by the Beatles. Counterbalance Entertainment is producing with Cobra Kai’s Hurwitz, Schlossberg, and Heald as executive producers.
The three also created, directed, and produced the new action comedy series Obliterated for Netflix. An original feature film based on the History Channel series Ancient Aliens will also be produced. Posley, an actor/writer who has worked with the trio before (most notably on season 4 of Cobra Kai), made his directorial debut with the horror flick Bitch Ass, which starred Tony Todd in the mould of classic slasher films.
He is presently employed by Fox on the show Welcome to Flatch. Create Valuable Content Producer Paul Young and corporate executive Devon Young will be in charge of this one. Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, and Scott Yacyshyn are assisting with production as associate producers. At this time, more information regarding the project is unavailable.
