Trailer number two for the upcoming Interview with the Vampire series on AMC, based on the Anne Rice novel of the same name, has been published. Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) are the two primary vampires in the plot, and their violent relationship is the main emphasis of the new trailer. Louis, a vampire, chooses to tell his experience to a reporter in Interview with the Vampire. Louis, a vampire who was transformed into one by a guy named Lestat and with whom he has had a tangled connection over the years, reveals his origin story in the titular interview.
Lestat acts hastily, is self-centred, and appears to take pleasure in playing Louis like a fool. The younger vampire, on his part, views his vampirism both as a blessing and a burden at different times. The new teaser highlights the tense dynamic between the two vampires. Louis calls Lestat his “creator,” “mentor,” and “beloved” in his narrative. Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), the reporter taking notes on Louis’ story, interrupts him shortly after. The reporter emphasises that one of the vampires is the abuser while the other is the abused, but Louis maintains that they are all equal after the sun goes down. Interview with the Vampire is just the first instalment of Anne Rice’s bestselling The Vampire Chronicles series.
Rice created a total of 15 books in her universe, all of which centre on Lestat and any of them might be turned into spinoffs or sequels to Interview with the Vampire. Rice is the author of a number of witch stories, all of which take place in the same universe as her Vampire Chronicles novels and are collected under the umbrella title Lives of the Mayfair Witches. As a result of AMC’s purchase of the complete rights to both The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches, it is possible that a new shared television world may be created. Despite the fact that Anne Rice’s canon marks the pinnacle of gothic fiction, The Vampire Chronicles has had very few adaptations in the form of film or television.
In 1994, Brad Pitt played Louis and Tom Cruise brought Lestat to life on screen as vampires for the first time in the film adaptation of Interview With The Vampire. Rice’s work has only been adapted once again, in 2002’s critically panned Queen of the Damned, despite being a box office triumph both times around. This means that AMC’s new series is a chance to finally give Rice’s works the adaptations they deserve. Bailey Bass will play Claudia, while Assad Zaman will play Rashid, in Interview with the Vampire.
Creator Rolin Jones will also take on the role of showrunner. Though she passed away in 2021, Rice’s son Christopher Rice shares the producer credit for the show with his late mother. The show’s executive producers include Mark Johnson, too. The premiere of Interview With The Vampire airs on AMC and AMC+ on October 2.
