The cast for Paramount+’s original production School Spirits has been finalised, and the company has confirmed that production on the show has begun. Aside from List, Paramount+ has introduced the rest of the stellar ensemble for the afterlife thriller (Cobra Kai). In School Spirits, List plays a high school student who becomes stuck in the afterlife. Desperate to get back to life on Earth, she bands together with her fellow students who have also been trapped in this purgatory to figure out what happened to them. Milo Manheim (Zombies), who plays Wally Clark, a ghost from the 1980s who was a standout football player in high school, reveals more about the narrative.
Wally, the “friendly ghost,” will help the stranded high school kids find a way out of the school and back into the real world. The show is based on Nate Trinrud and Megan Trinrud’s soon-to-be-released graphic novel of the same name, with artwork by Maria Nguyen. In sync with the premiere of the show, Clarion Books/HarperAlley, a division of HarperCollins Children’s Books, will release the graphic book in the fall of 2023. Up-and-coming actors Kristian Flores (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) and Spencer MacPherson have been announced as additional cast members (Degrassi: Next Class) The Society’s Kiara Pichardo, Happy Death Day 2U’s Sarah Yarkin, Dramarama’s Nick Pugliese, and Rainbow Wedell (The Bureau of Magical Things).
Also appearing in the series are Josh Zuckerman (The Offer) and Maria Dizzia (Orange Is the New Black) in guest appearances as Mr Martin and Sandra Nears. The show’s creators and executive producers are Pretty Little Liars and Bridgerton alum Oliver Goldstick. Although Max Winkler (Cruel Summer) will serve as the show’s director, the Trinruds will play an integral role as executive producers.
Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Live-Action Studios of Paramount have teamed together before on the resurrected iCarly series and the coming-of-age film Honor Society, and now they’ve created the teen-centric film School Spirit. The film School Spirits is now filming in Vancouver, and Paramount+ is planning a release for later in 2023. Honour Society, starring Angourie Rice, is now available to stream on Paramount+ and will quench your YA cravings until School Spirits is released.
