Paramount has finally set a digital release date for Top Gun: Maverick, the studio’s most popular title to date and perhaps the most successful film of the year. The film has been in cinemas for over three months. In addition to the film’s heart-pounding action, Vudu users on August 23 will be able to enjoy a plethora of bonus features. The Tom Cruise-led action picture can be preordered on the service today for the low, low price of $19.99 in either standard definition or ultra high definition and HDX for those who want to recreate the enchantment of the film’s IMAX moments in the comfort of their own homes.
There’s also a two-film set for $29.99 that contains the original Top Gun and includes a slew of bonus materials that show how much the cast and crew invested in making the film’s flying scenes and action set pieces feel authentic and dramatic. The soundtrack of the movie’s now-iconic beach football scene, “I Ain’t Worried,” by OneRepublic, and the original versions of Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand,” are included in the digital release’s special features. Extras on the release include a look at the cast’s preparation for flying real F-18 fighter planes at high Gs, the making of the “Darkstar,” the experimental plane Maverick flies at the beginning of the film, and Tom Cruise’s “A Love Letter to Aviation,” in which Cruise talks about his love of flying while in the middle of a real flight.
Top Gun: Maverick continues to shatter box office records and astound viewers all around the world as its digital release date draws near (the physical version will arrive in November). Passing $1.37 billion at the worldwide box office, the sequel is riding high on the triumph of a “fan appreciation weekend,” with enthusiasm for the picture showing no signs of abating as it moves up the charts to become the ninth-highest earning film in American cinematic history. On August 23, Top Gun: Maverick, starring Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Greg Tarzan Davis, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, and Val Kilmer, will become available on Vudu and other digital stores.
