Ezra Miller, star of the upcoming superhero film The Flash, has publicly apologised for the legal trouble the cast and crew have been in recently, attributing it to “complex mental health issues.” This is great news for Warner Bros. Discovery, which means the studio will be able to move forward with the release of the highly anticipated film. If Miller hadn’t apologised, Warner Bros. Discovery may have cancelled The Flash’s release due to poor marketing. Miller’s career as the Flash was put in jeopardy after he was jailed twice for disorderly behaviour in Hawaii, despite the fact that he had already spent eight years making appearances and starring in the DC Extended Universe.
Miller has been the subject of many investigations since then for various alleged crimes, including public threats, theft of passports and alcohol, and distribution of illicit substances to a juvenile. That’s hardly exactly heroic, and Warner Bros. Discovery was worried Miller’s problems in the real world would reflect poorly on their fictional one. Warner Bros. Discovery thought the best course of action to protect The Flash’s marketing from legal inquiries was for Miller to blame the incident on their mental health and seek assistance from a mental health specialist.
Miller obviously got the point, because they are ready to shoulder the whole burden of responsibility in order to protect the DCEU’s financial interests. Miller told Variety in a statement, Because of the recent crises I went through, I have come to terms with the fact that I have complicated mental health concerns and am receiving continuing therapy for them. In advance, I apologise to everyone whose nerves I may have rattled by my previous actions. I will do what has to be done to bring myself back to a place where I can feel secure, healthy, and productive.
There remains hope for the future despite the current dire circumstances, provided Miller receives the assistance they require. Some may suspect that Warner Bros. Discovery is using this as a PR tactic to ensure they get their money’s worth out of producing The Flash, which has cost them an estimated $200 million so far. When the film’s major star finally admits fault and seeks therapy for their mental health issues, it will be fascinating to observe how the studio handles the movie’s marketing. Both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will play Batman in The Flash, the film adaptation of DC Comics’ Flashpoint, which follows a multiverse plot. Batgirl, the first live-action feature starring the adored heroine, originally slated for Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight, was unfortunately shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery during their reorganisation of the DCEU.
Even after spending $90 million on development, the studio decided to cancel Batgirl, which astonished the film’s filmmakers. While Warner Bros. Discovery is keeping Miles Miler in the DCEU, despite the possible message that may be sent, they are doing everything they can to save The Flash.
The release date for The Flash is set for June 23, 2023.
