Finally, after this weekend’s fan appreciation event and well-deserved victory lap, Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick will be available to view and own on physical media later this year. After breaking the $1 billion barrier at the box office and dethroning the long-reigning Titanic, the legacy sequel will be available for digital purchase on August 23. If you want to own the film on 4K Ultra HD or Blu-ray, though, you’ll have to wait until November. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the first Top Gun film back in Top Gun: Maverick. Over thirty years after the events of the original film’s tragic climax, Maverick is summoned back to TOPGUN to teach a new team of graduates, which includes Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his late buddy “Goose.”
The film’s skyrocketing popularity may be attributed, in part, to the impressive stunts and action it features, as well as the positive message it sends. The legacy sequel has not only broken box office records, but it has also become Paramount’s highest-grossing picture of all time and Cruise’s highest-grossing film of his whole storied career. Top Gun: Maverick’s upcoming release will include over 110 minutes of bonus content, including behind-the-scenes looks at the film’s spectacular aerial sequences, the crew’s attempt to break the Mach-10 barrier, and, of course, the cast’s rigorous flight training programme that got them in shape for some of the film’s insanely cool moments.
Given the significance of Top Gun: Maverick to both Paramount and Cruise’s own filmography, the special features include the actor talking about his lifelong love of flying in his own plane and his extraordinary career at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Even more exciting for Lady Gaga devotees is the fact that both her music video and OneRepublic’s will be included in this release. Aside from Cruise and Teller, Top Gun: Maverick features the voices of Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis, Jennifer Connelly, and Jon Hamm, and the return of Val Kilmer as “Iceman.”
Though it’s currently playing in cinemas, you can purchase Top Gun: Maverick on digital platforms starting on August 23, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD starting on November 1. Take a look at the supplemental materials below here:
