With no indications of slowing down at all, Danny Elfman is still going strong at the age of 69. After making his debut at Coachella this year, the four-time Oscar-nominated composer has now released a remix of his most recent solo album, Big Mess, titled Bigger. Messier. Along with scoring one of the year’s most anticipated films, “Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness,” he has a busy schedule.
Clearly, Elfman is busier than ever, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down any time soon, especially since he’s already committed to scoring Noah Baumbach’s next film, White Noise. Elfman recently gave an interview to inews.co.uk, where he addressed his career and latest projects, including the Bigger. Messier. remix, which is where the above information was obtained.
He also revealed that he is now composing the score for Baumbach’s soon-to-be-released Netflix title, which will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August and its North American premiere as the opening night title at the New York Film Festival in September. That’s hardly much time to put anything together, but it seems like Elfman is at his best when he’s pushed. The prolific musician has composed practically all of Tim Burton’s films but is probably best recognised for his work with the director.
Elfman, however, has also contributed to a slew of other Oscar-bait and critically acclaimed films, including Milk, Good Will Hunting, Silver Linings Playbook, Men in Black, and American Hustle. It should be stressed that the artist is not just renowned for his genre works, albeit White Noise has the potential to be quite a noticeable shift for the recognisable musician. As an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel of the same name, which has been called “unfilmable,” the newest film from the director of Marriage Story is intended to be something of an epic magnum opus.
Soon enough, we’ll get to watch Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig in Baumbach’s supposedly challenging adaptation, but the film’s existential comedy-horror vibe may be right in Elfman’s groovy wheelhouse, or it could be a complete departure from the composer’s previous work. We won’t have to wait very long to find out how successful it will be. Elfman is also collaborating with Burton again on the score for his next Netflix series, Wednesday.
In addition, he composed the scores for his brother Richard Elfman’s most recent film, Bloody Bridget, and the upcoming feature 65, which both star Driver. As was pointed out, he enjoys keeping himself active. Netflix has announced that they will debut White Noise later this year.
