Two new posters for Searchlight Pictures’ The Menu have been released after the publication of the complete trailer. The posters for Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-films Joy’s have some serious style. The goal is clear: this fine-dining experience is going to be spectacular. You don’t even need an invitation to attend the “haute cuisine” dinner event in Mark Mylod’s forthcoming dark-comedy thriller. The mysterious Chef Slowik (Fiennes) glares at the camera in an advertisement for his five-star kitchen.
Chef Slowik’s fanboy Tyler’s girlfriend, Margot (Taylor-Joy), stands her ground in the second poster, arms crossed and gazing into the camera with no flinching. It appears as though they’re challenging each other to take the initial step. The significance of the initial step, though, remains a mystery. The guests in The Menu’s teaser trailer begin to suspect that all is not as it appears during this unusual dinner. Ahead of you, “Wonderful surprises await you all,” reads the banner for Ralph Fiennes, but his expression says nothing about the quality of a “wonderful surprise.” Suddenly, the crew of Chef Slowik’s restaurant starts acting like a cult, as the evening takes a dark turn.
Since the beginning, Margot has been on edge, and her billboard depicts her final-girl resolve as she stands between Slowik and his workers, despite her lack of admiration for the chef’s inflated image. Could it be that Taylor-banner Joy also says, “What a coincidence!”? “Preparation was meticulous. The execution was flawless, “In the background, a suited visitor is seen in distress No, we don’t think so. As a newcomer to feature films, Mylod’s directing credentials include HBO’s Game of Thrones and the Emmy Award-winning shows Succession, Entourage, and Shameless.
The Onion’s lead writer Seth Reiss and contributing writer Will Tracy, who worked with Mylod on Succession, provide a terrific bite to the screenplay with comedy from The Menu’s trailer. David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive and Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell cinematographer Peter Deming are responsible for the eerie views. Also on hand for the event are Janet McTeer and Arturo Castro of Broad City, Janet McTeer of Me Before You, Aimee Carrero (Blindspot), and Judith Light of Ugly Betty. The Menu will be open to the public on November 18th.
