Curb Your Enthusiasm, the HBO comedy series, finished its eleventh season in December of last year, and fans had been waiting impatiently for any word on a season twelve, and they finally got their wish with a renewal. There is no shortage of ideas for the upcoming season, according to showrunner Jeff Schaffer, and it is now in the works. Curb Your Enthusiasm returns for its tenth and 11 seasons in 2020 and 2021, despite the show’s inconsistent scheduling since its inception in 2000. Season 9 was released in 2017 after a six-year gap between the release of season 8 in 2011 and season 9 in 2017, as well as other delays.
However, Larry David, the show’s creator and star announced Season 12 earlier this year, and nothing has been heard about the new season’s development if any. Schaffer, the show’s executive producer, recently spoke with IndieWire and gave fans the much-needed update. Schaffer noted that the writers are already hard at work on a new season in order to begin filming in the fall: Schaffer told IndieWire, “We’re writing it now, and we’ll start filming, I don’t know, late autumn.” “Right now, we’re in the thick of it. There is a dry-erase board in front of my eyes. […] In a room, we’re just showing each other our scars and brainstorming new ideas. Cockroaches are a good analogy. They’re tough to get rid of. I think we’re simply a bunch of comic bugs that are stuck in a rut.”
It was interesting to hear about Schaffer’s experience working with David as the series’ producer, writer, and director since Season 5. He said that David puts all he has into each season, and by the time it’s through, he doesn’t have any more ideas. Despite the fact that the death of David was filmed in Season 11, Schaffer is certain that David’s lack of ideas will not occur. Schaffer described the experience of working on a season of Curb while describing David’s creative side: In order to participate in the final season of Curb, you must sign up for one entire season of Curb. It’s because, when Larry creates a season, he incorporates all of the concepts and ideas that he particularly enjoys. There is a void at the conclusion of the season since there are no new ideas that he loves. No one else on Earth believes he will ever come up with another great idea.
In Curb Your Enthusiasm, David is portrayed as a fictitious character. It’s not your usual scripted drama; instead, the series relies on unscripted dialogue from the performers to flesh out its storylines. The result is an entertaining show to watch. There were four Emmy nominations in 2022, including Outstanding Comedy Series, for the last season. Laura Streicher serves as co-executive producer while Jon Hayman and Steve Leff serve as consulting producers on the series. HBO Max offers a streaming version of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
