According to Deadline, DJ Cotrona will be reprising his role as Spy Mike in the upcoming Spy Kids revival on Netflix. Robert Rodriguez will also be returning to the helm for the film. Together, they adapted From Dusk Till Dawn for television. Together with Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Billy Magnussen, Everly Carganilla, and Connor Esterson, the actor forms a powerhouse cast. The Cortez family is the focus of Spy Kids, a family-friendly action comedy. Rodriguez’s creation adds a new twist to the espionage genre with its emphasis on Latino culture. In the first film, siblings Carmen and Juni find out their parents are spies who have been summoned out of retirement after 10 years.
The children, after witnessing the abduction of their parents, are forced to learn espionage techniques in order to get their release. In Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, the franchise returns with Juni and Carmen now serving in the OSS. Unfortunately, Juni loses her job because of the antics of the Giggles children. Juni’s membership must be restored after learning of their plot to use the transmooker technology to take over the globe. The story arc focusing on Cortez concludes with Juni rescuing Carmen from a glitch in a computer game in the third part. A sequel starring Jessica Alba as a retired spy who teams up with her stepchildren to stop The Timekeeper from taking over the world was published in 2011. In this next chapter, the offspring of history’s top spies will unwittingly aid a psychotic villain in unleashing a computer virus that will give him control over all electronic devices.
The children have to work together to save their parents and the planet. Rodriguez is scheduled to reprise his role as director, in addition to writing and producing the picture. Author Racer Max contributes to the piece. Skydance, the company in charge of the production, has tapped David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger to serve as producers. The production team will also include Elizabeth Avellan and Max. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, both of Spyglass, are executive producers. Nick Nesbit, of Netflix, will be in charge of the project’s creative direction. Rodriguez’s other notable works include the Disney+ original Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett, for which he worked as director and executive producer.
He has also directed episodes of The Mandalorian, which airs on Disney+. His résumé spans several genres, and he has been in popular film series including the Predator movies and the Mexico films (of which Once Upon a Time in Mexico is a part). Sin City, Machete, Bedhead, Desperado, and many others are among his other works. Several organisations have praised Rodriguez for his innovative filmmaking, including Sundance, the Satellite Awards, and the Grammys.
