When it comes to adapting their famous comic series Brutal Nature, IDW joined up with the Latin American animation company Anima. According to Variety, the firms have signed a wider development contract, with the popular series created by Luciano Saracino and Ariel Olivetti serving as the first project to emerge from the partnership. The show’s target audience is adults, hence it will be animated. The protagonist of the series by Saracino and Olivetti is a young man named Ich who, via the use of many masks, can assume the identities of several formidable and frightening beings.
Using the supernatural resources at his disposal, he fights alongside the Colombian indigenous to repel the Spanish conquest. The fate of the nation, and the very character of its people, hangs in the balance as the two armies engage in a deadly conflict. It is co-produced by IDW and Fernando De Fuentes and José C. Garca de Letona. IDW has been actively turning comics into popular television programmes, so a Brutal Nature adaptation is perfectly up their alley. The studio is responsible for a number of programmes, including Locke & Key on Netflix, which is based on a comic book series by Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodrguez, and Surfside Girls, a family show on Apple TV+, which is based on a series of graphic books by Kim Dwinell.
Executive v.p. of IDW Entertainment Paul Davidson had faith that nima could lead their new animated series to success. His official statement stated, “We’ve long been great admirers of what nima has been doing in the animation industry, therefore we are happy with their excitement for teaming on Brutal Nature.” Their taste will add depth to the fantastic universe established by Luciano Saracino and Ariel Olivetti. Nima’s Chief Operating Officer, Garca de Letona, offered similar glowing remarks about their IDW collaborators. It’s thrilling to collaborate with IDW on the creation of a project of this kind.
We couldn’t conceive of a better partner than Brutal Nature to continue putting out high-quality stories with a Latin sensibility that can be appreciated all around the world. For nima, which is best known for producing kid-friendly fare like El Chavo Animado and Top Cat: The Movie, Brutal Nature is uncharted territory. The production company has lately shifted its focus to digital distribution with the release of programmes including Brave Bunnies, Legend Quest: Masters of Myth, and Cleo & Cuquin on Netflix, HBO Max, and YouTube.
