We are pleased to provide an exclusive clip from the cringe comedy film I Love My Dad, starring Patton Oswalt and Rachel Dratch, on the day of the film’s theatrical release.
The tape begins with Oswalt (Chuck) and Dratch (Erica) on a date, but soon Oswalt is trying to get Dratch (Erica) to help him “prank call” his son Franklin (James Morosini). Claiming that it is simply the pair’s thing, Dratch’s character doesn’t find the fun in this prank and queries why he wouldn’t know the voice of his own girlfriend.
Oswalt argues that his kid has only met her online thus to lend some “authenticity” to the prank call, Erica should be the voice. Even though she first resists, Chuck is able to win her over by the conclusion of the clip. The truth behind the hoax call is that this “girlfriend” Franklin is seeing is Chuck. Concerned about his son’s safety, Chuck establishes a phoney account under the guise of a woman (Claudia Sulewski) to get over the many social media restrictions in place.
While Chuck was merely checking up on his son’s well-being, Franklin falls in love with the “female,” with Chuck having unwittingly catfished his own son and now finds himself knee-deep in a deception that begins to unravel as Franklin wants to see her in real life. Morosini not only stars in but also wrote, directed, and produced the picture, which is based on his own life. There will also be Lil Rel Howery, Amy Landecker, and Ricky Velez in the future movie. The film is Morosini’s second feature as the director both writer and filmmaker and had its premiere earlier this year at SXSW in March.
There, the film took home both the Grand Jury Award and the Audience Award and got excellent appreciation from attendance. Today, August 5, I Love My Dad opens in cinemas and will be available on digital platforms on August 12.
