Starz has revealed that it is developing an Outlander prequel series named Blood of My Blood. The new series has been verified, and information about its narrative has been disclosed, after the initial report of its production in February. According to Deadline(opens in new tab), the new series would focus on the romance of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Writing the prequel, in addition to his duties as showrunner and executive producer on Outlander, Matthew B. Roberts will also serve as a writer on the new series. The television adaptation of Outlander was created by Ronald D. Moore, who is also serving in an executive producing capacity.
So yet, there has been no announcement of the cast. Starz’s head of original programming, Kathryn Busby, called Outlander “a fascinating drama” that has “caught the hearts of its viewers across the world” with each passing season. We can’t wait to show our audience the beginnings of this colourful universe and how it all got started.
Production on season seven of the original series has already begun in Scotland, and season six aired earlier this year. Outlander, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, follows the story of Catriona Balfe’s character, Claire, as she travels across time from 1945 to 1743 and becomes embroiled in the Scottish rebellion against English authority. The show centres on her love story with the Highland warrior Jamie Fraser, whom she marries.
