Sky has confirmed, as reported by THR, that the time-travelling action drama The Lazarus Project will return for a second season, so fans can start preparing for another exciting voyage across several realities. George (Paapa Essiedu), an ordinary man, has his life turned upside down when he discovers he has the capacity to influence space and time in The Lazarus Project, a cross between Doctor Who and Spooks. Because of his abilities, he is now working for a secret government agency whose goal is to avert global extinction by using time travel.
Later on, George reaches a fork in the road when he must decide between following his heart and fulfilling his destiny. On June 16, all eight episodes of the series were published at once on Sky Max, and the show quickly became a smash hit, drawing in massive audiences and earning widespread critical acclaim. A massive 1.7 million viewers tuned in over the course of 28 days, making it Sky’s second-biggest original drama of 2022. Joe Barton, the show’s creator and writer, is ecstatic about the show’s renewed contract with Sky. Moreover, Barton stated, “We have huge and ambitious ideas for series two which will rejoin all our characters in more thrilling and mind-bending adventures.”
Barton has given some hints about the potential storyline of The Lazarus Project season 2. In an earlier interview with Radio Times, the showrunner said that former agents who have gone rogue and are utilising their time-manipulating powers to hinder the organization’s world-saving efforts would be introduced as new enemies in season two. Barton stated, “That’s something that we would want to examine in greater detail in future series if we’re lucky enough to receive any,” referring to the Lazarus Project’s backstory.
When asked to describe other dissident members of the organisation, Barton said, “There’s a godlike quality to them; they wield incredible power; they inhabit a world in which they can control the flow of time and space; they need not worry about the repercussions of their actions; how does this make them evil? How does that affect their sense of right and wrong? I find it intriguing, and we want to investigate it further.” Cast members Essiedu (The Wire), Charly Clive (All My Friends Hate Me), Rudi Dharmalingam (The Split), and Anjli Mohindra (Munich: The Edge of War) will all be back for Season 2 of The Lazarus Project. Episodes one through four were directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner, episodes five and six by Laura Scrivano, and episodes seven through ten by Akaash Meeda, all in the first season (episodes 7 and 8).
Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy of Urban Myth Films and Paul Gilbert of Sky serve as executive producers for the show. The second season is scheduled for a 2023 premiere on Sky Max.
