STARZ’s smash show Outlander has been so successful that the network has been rumoured to be working on a prequel series since February, before the sixth season debut. The sequel’s official green light and working title, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, have both just been confirmed. According to reports, the show would chronicle the romance of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents. Season 7 of the historical fantasy series Outlander is presently in production on STARZ. The show first premiered in 2014 and has since been broadcast for six seasons.
Caitriona Balfe plays the role of Claire Randall, a medic for the British soldiers during World War II, in the series based on the novels of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. Claire and her new husband are on their honeymoon in Scotland when they are suddenly transported back in time to the 1700s, where they become embroiled in a battle between the Highland Scots and the British Redcoats, and where Claire falls head over heels in love with Jamie Fraser. The nine volumes in the main series, as well as the novellas, short tales, and spin-off books, provide a wealth of material from which to draw, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood will offer readers an entirely new story.
Both Jamie’s parents were dead before the novels and the show began, thus their tale has not been told. Former Outlander showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts has been tapped to pen spinoffs. When it comes to Outlander: Blood of My Blood, he’ll be doing double duty as both showrunner and executive producer. Screenwriter Ronald D. Moore and his partner in crime, Maril Davis, of Tall Ship Productions, will executive produce the prequel. In addition, Gabaldon has been hired as a consultant producer. Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at STARZ, has the following to say about developing the Outlander canon: Season after season, “Outlander” continues to captivate viewers all around the world.
Our team is eager to reveal the history of this colourful culture to the public. We know that Matthew, Maril, and Ronald will add their unique brand of genius to this new version, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with. Blood of My Blood, the sequel to Outlander, is in its infancy of production.
