Variety has learned exclusively that Rebel Wilson, a star of comedies including Pitch Perfect, will appear in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming tennis comedy film Double Fault, which will be produced under the studio’s Players banner. The screenplay is in the hands of brothers Jim and Brian Kehoe, who also created the 2019 comedy Blockers starring John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz. The only thing we know about the upcoming film Double Fault is that it will be a comedy about tennis; no specifics about the plot have been revealed. Not much we know about the impending project at this time, but more information should become available when filming gets underway.
Todd Garner, who produced the high school comedy picture Senior Year starring Rebel Wilson and about a middle-aged woman’s quest to acquire her high school graduation after awakening from a 20-year coma, will co-produce Double Fault. Brad Jenkel (The Matador) is onboard as an executive producer, while Wilson is co-producing the future film. There is presently no director set for the project. Wilson has a long list of credits, including the role of Brynn in Paul Feig’s 2011 comedy Bridesmaids, which earned her widespread acclaim.
Wilson would go on to make other comic appearances in films such as Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb & Pitch Perfect movie. In 2019, Wilson will star in a number of high-profile films, including Jojo Rabbit (directed by Taika Waititi), Cats (directed by Tom Hooper), and The Hustle (co-starring Anne Hathaway), and Isn’t It Romantic (in which she had the main role).
Now, with the debut of Senior Year on Netflix earlier this year and the production of Double Fault, Wilson looks to be making a comeback to film after a two-year break. Alongside Double Fault, Wilson will also make an appearance in the upcoming British drama film The Almond and the Seahorse, directed by Celyn Jones and Tom Stern. His role in the film is yet to be known. Given Wilson’s track record in the field, Paramount Pictures’ upcoming release of Double Fault has the potential to provide fans with a humorous and entertaining viewing experience. The film is still in the very early stages of production, thus there is no specific date for its release.
