The Sandman, a Netflix original series based on Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic novels, has given us a sneak peek at a new clip. Fan favourite Mervyn Pumpkinhead, who is voiced by Star Wars great Mark Hamill, is teased in a new preview for the future series, which illustrates how the new programme would adapt The Doll’s House plot. When Mervyn (Tom Sturridge) goes looking for seismic activity that might destroy Dreaming in the new clip, he runs across Dream. Morpheus, the king of the Dreaming in comic books, is both the embodiment of the human capacity to wonder, envision, and aspire for a better future and the ruler of the Dreaming. Morpheus is confronted with the terrible force of a person capable of breaching the boundaries between dreams in The Doll’s House plot.
As a result, Morpheus must take whatever measures are necessary to avoid harming the Dreaming and killing anybody who becomes entangled in their slumber. There will be a life-ending threat, much like in the comic books, as shown in the preview. Mervyn’s presence in the clip is the most intriguing aspect of it. The figure does not appear in the Doll’s House plotline in comic books. However, Mervyn is the custodian of the Dreaming, responsible for creating and dismantling huge areas of the oneiric realm and aiding Morpheus to keep the region tidied up so that the thoughts of the sleepers can be welcomed.
It’s fantastic to see that the show has the time to extend the universe Gaiman built, therefore it’s great to see canon characters getting more attention. Heinberg serves as showrunner for the first season of The Sandman, which is produced by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg. Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House, the first two volumes of Neil Gaiman’s ten-volume collection of stories, will be adapted for the show’s first season, which will air in 2017.
Even though Netflix hasn’t renewed The Sandman for Season 2, the show’s creative team is already hard at work on Season 2. Death is played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park is Desire, Gwendoline Christie is Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook is the Corinthian, David Thewlis is Charles Dance is Asim Chaudhry is Sanjeev Bhaskar is Donna Preston is Jenna Coleman is Niamh Walsh is Joely Richardson is Kyo Ra is Stephen Fry is Razane Jammal is Sandra James Young is Patton Oswalt are all in The Netflix premieres The Sandman on August 5th.
