Showtime said today that a new comedy about a man experiencing an existential crisis is in the works. Mason, a half-hour comedy series developed, written, executive produced, and starring comedian Nathan Min will be produced by A24, a fan favourite production firm (Joe Pera Talks to You). Based on Nathan’s personal experiences, the series will use surrealism storytelling to portray the narrative of the introvert’s search for relationships in this noisy, crowded, and overwhelming environment. The Daniels were chosen to produce and direct the next series by A24 because of the show’s use of surrealist themes and images to establish its comedic timing.
When Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s action-comedy Everything Everywhere All At Once topped $100 million at the global box office, they created A24 film history. In the event that the pilot episode goes well, Showtime will order a series, and we’ll be hearing more and more exciting news about Mason in the near future. Nevertheless, the chances are strong because A24 and Showtime’s relationship to make TV series has brought ZIWE to life, which has been enormously profitable and much appreciated. Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), who previously worked with A24 on Minari, will serve as an executive producer on the new series.
Besides being a stand-up comedian, Min is also a comic book writer, cartoonist, and writer for a syndicated television show. VP of Original Programming, Global Scripted at Showtime reveals that the network fell in love with the programme right out of the gate, and she’s certain that audiences will feel the same way. In the way it astutely captures the hardships and tribulations of being a person today, Nathan has offered SHOWTIME a disarmingly amusing and heartfelt piece.
In addition to [The] Daniels, who has made a name for themselves with their great, mind-bending picture that redefined what was possible on screen, we can’t wait to see him link up with Steven Yeun, who has a tremendous array of talents, and our colleagues at A24. I believe that Mason has the potential to be one of the best comedies ever made for our audience.” Mason has yet to get further cast members or a release date from Showtime.
