Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Netflix’s forthcoming anime, has a new trailer out, and it provides anime powerhouse Studio Trigger with an opportunity to show off its might while introducing the Edgerunners team members to the public. With this new look, we get our greatest look yet at the characters we’ll meet on the programme, presenting their distinct features and personalities in all their glory. There’s also a lot of gruesome action, as well as glimpses of what the Edgerunners crew will be a part of in the long-term tale.
In September, the ten-part series will be available on the streaming service. Action scenes and hints at David’s past are shown before the tape is shown to the whole Edgerunners team. A neon blur of David’s lightning-quick running gives him the air of a self-assured, street-smart newcomer to the Edgerunners crew. It appears that Maine, whose rough demeanour and pistol arm resemble Barrett from Final Fantasy VII is the group’s apparent commander. Dorio, the group’s resident muscle, is armed with a pistol and possesses superhuman strength, while Kiwi is the group’s most mechanical member.
There is a distinct lack of humanity in her speech, as well as in the way her eyes lose their light when harmed. Aside from Pilar’s stretched limbs and slightly insane speech, Rebecca comes off as a complete loose cannon, threatening to shoot David in the head. Lucy, the other key character and a more reticent but extremely capable member of the crew, completes the cast. While the rest of the video is a visual explosion of action and bright colours, it does include some essential information regarding David and Lucy’s relationship. When David meets the mysterious Lucy, he is inspired to join the Edgerunners as a modified outlaw.
As they show real concern for one another and even share a kiss as David pledges to take her to the moon one day, their relationship transcends beyond that. The central focus of the programme appears to be the couple’s relationship, based on how frequently they have been depicted together in advertising materials. Edgerunners is being developed by CD Projekt RED and animated by Studio Trigger for the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The story is inspired by Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop RPG universe and will follow David’s adventures as an Edgerunner in Night City, a dystopian metropolis filled with augment-obsessed citizens and violent criminals.
Rafa Jaki (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077) is the showrunner and executive producer for CD Projekt’s new series. Satoru Homma, Bartosz Sztybor, and Saya Elder are among the show’s producers. Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) has been hired to direct the animation. Hiromi Wakabayashi, Yoh Yoshinari, Masahiko Otsuka, and Yoshiki USA (from the GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series and Promare) will join him, as will character designer and animator Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) (Star Wars: Visions). Famous musician Akira Yamaoka provided the music for this series.
September marks the launch of Edgerunners on Netflix’s cyberpunk series.
