With the premiere of the I Am Groot spinoff programme on Disney+ later this month, a new photograph from Empire Magazine shows the newborn version of the character in all his adorable splendour. The image shows Groot as a newborn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 relaxing in what looks to be a hot spring filled with purple boiling water in an exclusive image posted by Empire Magazine. Despite the muck covering his head, the guy appears to be having a good time. There are no new details revealed in this image, but it does demonstrate that I Am Groot will have lots of adorable sequences for fans of the character to enjoy.
As innocent as Groot appears in the new image, series director Kirsten Lepore says he’ll be in plenty of hilarious and naughty situations throughout the programme. Even while he’s still Groot, he’s also “a little wicked baby who is quite mischievous,” Lepore said in an interview with Empire Magazine. In spite of the fact that these are only shorts, “we had to play up how hilarious they are” because there aren’t many comedic series on the Marvel Animation lineup. Aside from Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), who is Groot’s best buddy, no other members of the team are known to appear in I Am Groot.
Also, James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, will feature as a voice actor, as Lepore hinted. The director hinted that there could be a voice Easter egg for him in one of the shows. When Vin Diesel first debuted as Groot as an adult in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy as a voice for the character, he sacrificed himself for the team. It was only a matter of time until Diesel would reprise his role as the infant version of the character in the film’s sequel, and the film’s fans would fall in love with him for his charming appearance.
With the introduction of his own spinoff programme later this month, Baby Groot’s popularity appears to be soaring. This year’s holiday season, Groot will appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+, which premieres later this year. Gunn will direct the Christmas special and return for the May 5, 2023 release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. On August 10th, Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch all six episodes of I Am Groot.
