The actress Emily Hampshire has been busy since her days on Schitt’s Creek, working on a variety of projects following the departure of Stevie Budd. Actor D-Day has just been given the green light by Deadline for Hampshire’s major role. D-Day, a filthy comedy about a newly divorced lady who is sexually naive, stars Kate. Although Kate’s friends encourage her, she decides to re-enter the dating scene, but she won’t date just anybody since she has high standards.
However, Kate is adamant that she would ruin her ex-wedding boyfriend’s day. As Stevie, the sardonic and loving motel employee, Hampshire is best known for her six-season tenure on Schitt’s Creek, a popular sitcom. Even though the show brought Hampshire to the public’s attention, she has since acted in several other projects on television and in movies. While working on the SYFY sitcom 12 Monkeys, she provided her voice to episodes like Braceface and 6Teen. It’s a Boy-Girl Thing, Mother!, and more are all examples of her work. Other projects she’s working on now include Bloody Hell and Slip.
She’ll also be appearing in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman in the near future. Hampshire’s debut graphic novel, Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch, will be released in October. Writing the script for D-Day is a reunion of Andy Roth, Becky Mann, and Audra Sielaff from Netflix’s One Day at a Time. Rules of Engagement was also a previous project for the trio. Additionally, Roth has written for TV shows including Anger Management and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, while Mann and Sielaff have written for shows like Carol’s Second Act and The Real O’Neals. Each of the three of them has also worked in a production role. The film will be Betsy Thomas’s feature directorial debut.
Episodes of her own Superstore, Home Economics, and My Boys, among other series for which she was showrunner and executive producer, have all been directed by her. In addition, Thomas has a long list of credited work in television as an executive producer and writer. Level 1 Entertainment’s Edward Milstein and Bill Todman Jr. will produce D-Day, with co-producer Limor Hakim on board. Spyglass’ executive producers are Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, with Chris Stone in charge of the project. “I am so excited to collaborate with the enormously talented Emily Hampshire to bring this deliciously randy story to life,” Thomas said in a statement to Deadline. A release date or cast members have not yet been announced for D-Day.
