Amazon Prime Video has decided against producing a third season of The Wilds. Three months after the release of the second season, the streaming service has decided to discontinue the young adult drama, as reported by Deadline (opens in a new tab).
The plot revolves around a group of young women their age who find themselves shipwrecked on an uninhabited island.
When they learn that there is another deserted island with young males in the same predicament as them, it quickly becomes apparent that something more nefarious is taking place. The cast has been discussing how they feel about the news that the show would be cancelled. Rachel Griffiths, who plays Gretchen, shared the following on her Instagram account (opens in a new tab): “I am overjoyed by the accomplishments of the young performers who have been on our programme over the past two seasons. I’ve never had such a strong affection for my superiors.”
While Dottie actress Shannon Berry remarked in an Instagram post (opens in a new tab): “Thank you, Dottie, for being the most fantastic part of these last four years; I’ll miss this unsinkable forever.” The showrunners had been hoping for a third season after the final episode of the second season ended on a dramatic cliffhanger; however, this cliffhanger will not be resolved because there will not be a third season.
In the latest interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Amy B. Harris stated, “We have a pretty clear plan for where season 3 will go” (opens in new tab). Amazon has terminated more than one show in recent weeks and months, including The Wilds. The conclusion of the 1st season of the science fiction drama Night Sky was also revealed by the production company. The plot of the entire series centres on a married couple who discover a gateway to another universe in their own garden. Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons are the leads in the show.
