It’s time to shut the windows and shake the doors, for The Fog is coming! Scream Factory has confirmed that the 4K UHD restoration of John Carpenter’s iconic film The Fog will not be the only thing included in the collector’s edition box set, which was first announced earlier this month. It’s the perfect addition to your home horror collection or a present for the Carpenter aficionado in your life, thanks to a plethora of extras, including commentaries, featurettes, and behind-the-scenes peeks at the filmmaking process. Buyers can look forward to the same high-quality restoration that has made StudioCanal a household name, as well as Dolby Atmos-enhanced audio for the first time. Fog carries souls from the past into the present in Carpenter’s supernaturally cult-following picture, which takes place in a small beach town in California. Vengeance-seeking violent monsters quickly take over the fictitious village of Antonio Bay.
Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau), the host of a local radio show, urges her listeners to meet at the church so that they may barricade themselves in, but the fog has other ideas. Along with directing and writing, Carpenter also wrote and performed on the film’s iconic soundtrack. Parts of prior Carpenter-helmed projects may be found throughout The Fog, which is known for its close working relationships with its cast and crew. Nods to previous productions abound, from Jamie Lee Curtis’ inclusion in the ensemble to the character name of Tom Atkins’ role, Nick Castle, a tribute to the man who portrayed the Shape in the original Halloween.
It would be the first of two horror films in which the actress and her mother, Janet Leigh, would appear together – the other being Steve Miner’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. Hal Holbrook also appeared in the picture. Debra Hill, Tommy Lee Wallace, and Debra Hill’s co-writer Debra Hill and production designer Tommy Lee Wallace are expected to appear in two different commentaries on the bonus features. In the documentary Horror’s Hallowed Ground or in a scene-by-scene analysis with Carpenter, take a tour of the production’s house. Explore the dark unknown of the fog with Curtis in My Time With Terror, or hear more about the film’s visuals from cinematographer Dean Cundey in the Dean of Darkness interview. The Fog 4K UHD collector’s edition will be released on September 13, 2022, and you can check out the entire list of extras below.
