One question has loomed over Spider-Man: Freshman Year since Marvel Studios announced the programme, and that question has been, “How is this show canon?” It’s now been confirmed by Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum that Freshman Year doesn’t occur on Earth-616. As a freshman, Peter Parker will be learning the ropes of high school and preparing to take on the role of Spider-Man. Tom Holland, who was founded by Tony Stark following the events of Captain America: Civil War, is the live-action incarnation of the web-slinger, whose origin story has been depicted several times in the MCU films.
As Comic-Con was advertised as a prelude to the Civil War, Marvel Studios has taken the liberty of crafting their own story. Winderbaum told Comicbook, “Well, like we stated, in the panel, it follows the pattern that you saw in [Captain America:] Civil War. The iconic moment when Tony Stark waits for Peter to stroll into his department to offer him the Stark internship and accompany him to Berlin occurs after Peter retrieves the broken Blu-ray player from the garbage. As a follow-up, It is not Tony Stark who’s waiting for him in the universe, though, due to random events in the multiverse. This Norman Osborn and his life take an unexpected turn, bringing him into contact with a slew of Marvel characters he never imagined.
There was a domino effect in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that permitted the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to take place, Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige has previously revealed. Using this logic, it is acceptable to claim that Freshman Year does not occur on Earth-616, yet the programme remains canon. Norman Osbourn’s involvement in Freshman Year will also inspire Peter Parker to link up with numerous new characters, including Daredevil, who will be voiced by Charlie Cox himself. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has shown us Spider-fantastic Man’s exploits with the Avengers, this animated series will bring back a number of Spider-iconic Man’s comic book colleagues.
In 2024, Disney+ will premiere Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
