Marvel’s forthcoming Fantastic Four film will not have an origin narrative, according to studio chief Kevin Feige. During an interview with THR, Feige talked about the studio’s intentions to introduce the superhero team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a fresh way.
“This story’s genesis is well-known. Many people have a rudimentary understanding of the subject. What can we do with that to provide them with something new? Bringing that to the film has established a very high standard for us.”
The Fantastic Four, which Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created in 1961, is known as “Marvel’s First Family.” When Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm were all exposed to cosmic rays on an experimental space voyage, they all developed superpowers. The team consists of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. In other words, even if the next Marvel film about the fabled four will not focus on their origins, the narrative of the team’s formation has been represented on the big screen before. The Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer were both released by 20th Century Fox in the mid-2000s.
In both films, Tim Story directed Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba with Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis, who were all in their pre-Captain America days. A new Fantastic Four film was announced for release in 2015, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, with a new ensemble cast assembled by Fox. However, both reviewers and moviegoers blasted the Josh Trank-helmed picture. It was made possible for the superhero team to join the MCU after Disney purchased Fox’s entertainment holdings in 2019. The Fantastic Four was initially teased by Marvel in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) was announced as the film’s director in the same year. Watts left the project early this year, and no one has been named as his replacement by Marvel.
As far as casting goes, there have been no announcements. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured John Krasinski as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. For the forthcoming Fantastic Four picture, it’s not certain if Krasinski will reprise his role as Wolverine.
The release date for Marvel’s Fantastic Four is presently set for November 8, 2024. Phase 6 of the MCU will begin with this film. During Disney’s D23 Expo in September, we may learn more about the film.
