Matthew McConaughey will star in Kari Skoglund’s next film, ‘Dallas Sting.’ Synopsis, Cast & Release Date

The forthcoming sports drama film Dallas Sting, starring Matthew McConaughey, will be developed and produced by Skydance and Berlanti Schechter Productions as part of an overall arrangement with Apple, according to an exclusive by Deadline. Kari Skoglund will helm the film. Dallas Sting is based on a true tale and follows a group of Dallas, Texas high school girls as they go to China to battle against some of the top women’s soccer teams from across the world. In 1984, the United States was asked to send a women’s soccer team to play in the World Championship in an effort to improve ties with China. Although the United States did not have an official women’s soccer team, they were still able to compete.

The Sting, a Dallas, Texas high school basketball team managed by coach Bill Kinder, was the result of a countrywide search for a squad. The Sting, whose name was inspired by the 1973 Robert Redford film, will tell the heroic underdog narrative of how he managed to compete against some of the greatest soccer players the world has ever seen. He already earned an Academy Award for his part in the critically acclaimed 2013 film Dallas Buyers Club, and now McConaughey is set to take on the role of the coach who guides the team of youngsters to compete in the global championship.

With no prior coaching expertise, his real-life counterpart may have intriguing character development for the film. Despite the fact that it’s not certain how closely the film will adhere to the real story it’s based on, Dallas Sting, starring Matthew McConaughey, might be a gripping sports drama for spectators when it debuts in the near future. Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, who worked together on Netflix’s original comedy GLOW, will pen the script for the feature. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance will produce the picture with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Robbie Rogers as executive producers. The film’s production will begin in New Orleans later this year. The release date for Dallas Sting has not yet been determined.
